Our 10 Favorite Jewelry Looks from the 2024 Met Gala
Has there ever been a more glorious display of vintage fine jewelry jewelry at an A-list celebrity event?
The 2024 Met Gala, which took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City last night, always inspires the wearing of jaw-dropping jewelry. The glittering fundraiser has become the most important night in designer fashion. But this year, celebrity stylists were inspired to gild their clients with truly gorgeous historic jewels. The Costume Institute's theme for its exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, which showcases 250 archival garments that are too fragile to handle without white gloves, undoubtedly inspired the choice to opt for antique jewelry. (The Met Gala is the primary fundraiser for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.)
It was a big night for vintage brooches—nearly every male celebrity wore at least one. Singer Leon Bridges sported a series of brooches from estate jewelry broker Ariel Saidian (see them below); Odell Beckham Jr. was clad in a Verdura seahorse brooch; Sebastian Stan affixed a trio of estate Cartier diamond brooches to his cummerbund; Jeff Goldblum wore vintage Tiffany brooches (see below); and accessories-loving Kieran Culkin wore a mélange of Fred Leighton jewelry including brooches and an oversized gemstone necklace (also shown below).
Meanwhile, female celebs donned pieces from well-known vintage dealers including Fred Leighton, Ariel Saidian, and Briony Raymond, who festooned Sarah Jessica Parker in a series of diamond pieces. Vogue editor Anna Wintour, the Met Gala's undisputed CEO, even wore vintage jewels: a circa-1860 diamond tremblant floral brooch and intricate diamond necklace from London-based estate jewelry dealer S.J. Phillips Ltd.
There was brand-new jewelry too, of course. Pamela Anderson, who's become a beloved fashion figure in the past year, radiated glee and glamour in a form-fitting Oscar de la Renta gown and long necklaces featuring over 200 cts. of lab-grown diamonds from Pandora. While Swarovksi global creative director Giovanni Engelbert arrived in an all-crystal dress and bold green Swarovski jewelry (see both below).
Chiseling the dozens of spectacular jewelry looks at the 2024 Met Gala down to ten favorites was no easy task, but here's the cream of the crop as I see it. Enjoy the splendor.
