Tiffany's 2025 Blue Book Takes Inspiration From the Tides

There are many jewelry icons in Tiffany & Co.’s design history but one is a bit of an outlier. The Tiffany Blue Book, the jeweler’s annual presentation of high jewelry creations, is as important to the brand’s legacy as its Elsa Peretti-designed Bone Cuff and Jean Schlumberger-designed Bird of a Rock brooch.

What originally began as a mail order catalog in1845 later evolved into deluxe hardbound volumes (published annually), showcasing the most innovative and extravagant jewels turned out by the Tiffany & Co. workshop. Today, the Tiffany Blue Book still serves the same function—to formally debut the design house’s most impressive high jewelry pieces—but also presents an opportunity for brand storytelling. Archival designs provide inspiration for new creations; heritage themes, textures, and motifs surface in the latest masterworks, artfully reimagined for the present day.

Last month saw the unveiling of Blue Book 2025: Sea of WonderDesigned by Nathalie Verdeille, the brand's chief artistic officer of jewelry and high jewelry, the new collection explores the mysteries of the ocean with an evocative color palette that mirrors the iridescent shimmer of underwater light and the bioluminescent glow of sea-dwelling flora and fauna.

“While each creation weaves a story of the ocean and its wonders, these extraordinary pieces also tell a broader narrative of the house’s love of pushing boundaries, our relentless pursuit of that which has never been done before, and the spirit of extraordinary savoir faire that has defined Tiffany & Co. since 1837,” says Verdeille. “Drawing inspiration from Jean Schlumberger’s fascination with the sea, our house’s pioneering spirit endures, driving us to reinvent archival inspirations from a modern perspective.”

The Blue Book 2025 collection jewels are organized by thematic chapters. The first is Ocean Flora, a lush world of oceanic plants that might inhabit an underwater garden. The Sea Turtle designs in this series feature diamond-rich patterns and intricate gold details. The geometry of the turtle shell is beautifully interpreted by Tiffany artisans, who meticulously engrave each piece.

The Sea Turtle pendant, features a hidden mechanism that transforms the piece from pendant to brooch, reflecting the turtle’s journey from land to sea.

The Starfish chapter deconstructs and reinterprets the creature into high jewelry with celestial overtones.

Each piece in Starfish—including this marvelous ring—exemplifies sculptural complexity, with rubies from Mozambique and diamonds accented by 18k yellow gold, rose-cut diamonds, and pavé diamonds.

The Urchin chapter draws from the intricate forms of the sea urchin, amplified through seminal Tiffany designer Jean Schlumberger’s visionary approach.

Urchin incorporates fancy intense yellow diamonds set in loops of 18k yellow gold “rope.”  Here, a pair of earrings strike harmonious balance between naturalistic and surrealistic elements.

Lastly, the Wave chapter celebrates the dramatic movement of the ocean through powerful, sculptural designs.

The Wave necklace features diamonds accented by vivid blue cuprian elbaite tourmalines totaling more than 17 carats. The piece is inspired by the voluminous forms and dynamic motion found in Schlumberger’s famous Leaves Necklace.

An exclusive celebration of the Blue Book 2025 unveiling took place at the end of April at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and welcomed notable attendees including Anya Taylor-Joy, Mikey Madison, Greta Lee, Alicia Keys, Gabrielle Union, all wearing Tiffany & Co. Two of the evenings looks stood out for being the only ones accessorized with Blue Book 2025 debuts: Taylor-Joy in a diamond necklace from Wave and Lee wearing a yellow diamond extravaganza punctuated by “herd” of stylized sea urchins.
