Pamela Love's New Muzo Emerald Collection Has a Medieval Vibe

Jewelry designer Pamela Love's works has always had a bohemian vibe—and is accordingly full of motifs such as arrows, feathers, fruits, mythological imagery. And in 2022, Love collaborated with Colombian emerald producer Muzo to create pieces featuring the beloved green gem.

The second collaborative collection recently dropped, coinciding with a life-changing milestone for the designer: Love recently bought back a majority stake in her business (more on that in a minute).

The new seven-piece Pamela Love X Muzo collection, Jardin, was inspired by the emeralds themselves. "I come from a painting background; stones are now my paint," Love told Gem + Jewel over a Zoom call. "I love the color vivid green more than anything. I looked at the complexity of the life inside the stones and juxtaposed them with settings that are almost ancient—simple and raw—that didn't take away from the emeralds."

The styles channel a Medieval vibe, and also feature neutral-toned diamonds and Baroque and seed pearls. Also included in the collection is Love's signature Portrait ring, which isolates the elements of a human face, with blank spaces (skin when it's on the finger) in between. This new visage features an emerald cabochon teardrop (see them below).

Exploring new stones isn't the only development for Love. Recently, Love parted ways with Red Luxury, her business partners since 2019, which was instrumental in opening her now-closed Paris store, which had the unfortunate luck of opening just days before the COVID-19 pandemic shut everything down.

She's candid about the disintegration of the relationship, explaining, "We disagreed on the management of the brand and direction. We had different ideas of why a brand should exist, and I didn't see a future there."

She's since added new partners: Pamela Love president and co-owner Alex Henriques, who was formerly with Red Luxury and also played a vital role in the Doordash pandemic expansion, and Stephany Sleiman, a media specialist who most recently was with Essence Media Global as its marketing director.

Love feels the new partnerships align with the brand's values, allowing her company to focus on product quality, its wholesale business, and an expansion of its ear-piercing business (the brand recently hosted a free piercing event at Goop's Bond Street location in NYC).

The Pamela Love X Muzo collection is for sale in the brand's NYC store and online at pamelalove.com
